It is that time again!!! Time for the Texas State Fair and some CRAZY fried foods! Check out the list of fried foods that will be featured this year. Which one would you try?

Deep Fried S’mores Pop Tarts: A deep fried S’mores Pop Tart drizzled with chocolate and topped with whipped cream.

Deep Fried Frozen Margarita: Deep fried funnel cake batter dusted with lemon/lime flavor and served in a salt rimmed glass.

Fried Club Salad: A deep fried spinach wrap filled with diced ham & chicken, shredded iceberg, crunchy carrot strips, ripe cherry tomatoes, shredded sharp cheddar and hickory smoked bacon.

Fried Beer: A deep fried beer filled pretzel pocket.

Fried Chocolate: A white chocolate mini candy bar and a cherry stuffed into a mouth-watering brownie, dipped into chocolate cake batter and deep fried. It is topped with cherry sauce, powdered sugar, and chocolate whip cream.

Fried Lemonade: Deep fried lemonade flavored pastry topped with a lemonade glaze.

Fried Texas Caviar: Black eyed peas fried and topped with Old Bay Seasoning flavor.

Texas Fried Frito Pie: A lightly battered and deep fried portion of chili with cheddar cheese encased in Fritos.

Midway rides, shows, vendors, petting zoos……they all exist at the fair, but the main topic of every Texas State Fair conversation is the food! The food is so important that the State Fair website had a food locator page! On my visit to the fair, the lines for the fried butter were the longest. I have heard that is tastes like a deep fried roll with butter in the middle. Some varieties had flavors like garlic, cherry, and grape injected into the middle.

I did not venture into the land of fried foods! I stuck to my tried and true soft pretzel for my fair food fun. This was not just any soft pretzel. It was a Texas Twister Pretzel that was about the size of my head! They say things are bigger in Texas…and the soft pretzels definitely are.

One of my favorite parts of the fair is the General Store in the Food and Fiber Pavilion. Here are some of the fun offerings that line the shelves.
