Christmas Cookie Fun!

I arrived in Florida today to spend the Christmas holidays with my family. Of course, my sister and I couldn’t resist spending some time baking in the kitchen. We had SO much fun! I wish we lived closer to each other so we could spend more time together…especially creating sweet treats in the kitchen. Tonight, we made a Hungarian cookie that my mom makes every Christmas. We chose to use cherry and almond fillings for this batch of cookies, but there are many other flavors that you can use.

Hungarian Kifli

Ingredients:

3 cups flour
1 lb butter, softened
1 lb cream cheese, softened
1 can of pastry/pie filling
1/2 cup confectionary sugar

Directions:

  1. Mix the flour, butter, and cream cheese until well blended, and knead dough until it holds.
  2. Place in freezer for 10 minutes.
  3. Roll out dough on a floured surface.
  4. Using a cookie cutter, cut out small circles of dough.
  5. Place 1 tsp of filling in center of each circle.
  6. Fold two sides of the circle towards the middle and pinch them together to seal.
  7. Bake at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. After cooling, sprinkle the cookies generously with powdered sugar.
